THE MERMAIDS’ SONG

2047
And I’m wetter than ever
Got my ties to mankind On the brink of a server
i’m in court with my case
on the rise of sea level
dirty judge
He can’t even keep his see at eye level.

art + climate + science
An alternate vision of the future. Reimagined images of the sea and of Mermaids delivering a tell-
tale message in picture, word and song. An invitation to venture outside our comfort zone and
resist the status quo. To rediscover long forgotten truths about the air, the land and our water.
Calling on us to rise like an ocean and embrace the power of change. To live in symbiosis with the
planet and in so doing... save ourselves.

"Mermaids have populated the human imagination for millennia... might they help achieve what scientists have not? Disseminating fact, from fiction is a necessity for change in a rapidly changing environment.” - Joel Vannfuller, Founder/Creative Director, The Mermaids’Song Project

For Earth, it's the year of the beginning of the end of climate (as we know it). Scientists from every corner of Earth are indicating that this is the most pressing and important crisis facing mankind today.
ART + CLIMATE + SCIENCE - By using art to make the science more accessible, we trust more intelligent solutions will be adopted to reduce the rate at which our climate is changing.
It can feel daunting, as though anything we do will not make a dent in the enormity, but this is not the truth. As a human, as an inhabitant of this earth who has played a part in this environmental destruction, I feel a strong pull and even stronger responsibility to apologize to our ocean for what we have done.
The planet does not care if you are a mother, a doctor, a factory worker, a politician, the top climate change scientist, or even identify as a climate change skeptic. The climate is changing at an unprecedented rate, in part due to human activity.
The clock is ticking. With over 7 billion people on the planet what can one person do?

Charles Jones African Art
Maintains a complete reference library numbering over 1000 volumes on the arts of Sub-Sahara Africa, and is a major source of inspiration for the Mermaids' Song project. The half-human, half-serpent African water-spirit has populated the human imagination for millennia. Some of the earliest have their origins in the fertile river valleys of Mesopotamia, Africa's Nile Valley, and later the Mediterranean world of the Phoenicians, Minoans, Greeks, and Romans. In the African Atlantic world, people recognize the essential and sacred nature of water by honoring and celebrating "Mami Wata", which may be translated as "Mother Water" or "Mistress Water".
